Pandemic drives the use of devices to enable teleworking

Due to the social distancing that has been experienced since 2020, 56% of Mexican small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) had to acquire laptops to enable teleworking. This was expressed by Ulises Cabrera, manager of Surface for companies at Microsoft Mexico.

“The best telecommuting salesperson during the pandemic was the pandemic itself,” said the executive during his participation in Geek Hunters, the podcast of the businesses behind your gadgets.

In the chapter “Your computer, is it a godín star?”, The guest explained that, faced with the problem, SMEs had the need to adopt technological devices and tools to be able to implement new ways of working. Hence, the commercialization of PCs increased in the last year.

He explained that a recent study undertaken by Microsoft revealed that – during the pandemic – 70% of SMEs integrated some video conferencing software or application for the first time.

This survey also shows that 63% of Mexican small and medium-sized companies implemented teleworking as a result of the health crisis caused by Covid-19. In other words, before this situation, most businesses had not taken advantage of the technologies that make remote work possible.

Not all equipment is for professional use

Cabrera shared that in the first months of applying home office, people realized that they needed equipment with special characteristics. For this reason, most have opted for laptops that allow them to easily move from any room.

Battery life is another feature valued by employees who work from home, since sometimes there are not as many contacts available at home.

As collaborators gained experience with video calls, the need arose for equipment that provides a good user experience to allow people to hear and be heard clearly.

As for companies, they also have their own requirements. For example, processing capacity and information security, since sensitive data is handled on computers.

For these reasons, not just any equipment meets the requirements for professional use. Microsoft has revamped its Surface family, with a variety of business laptops.

In the Surface range you can find formats such as laptops or 2-in-1 devices. In addition, there are sizes for any professional use. Available from 10-inch 2-in-1 devices and 13.5 ”or 15” laptops, up to 50 or 85-inch large format devices.

Surface sets itself apart by providing a great experience. For example, said Cabrera, it offers magnificent sound clarity. “By combining specialized hardware and software features based on Artificial Intelligence, it is possible to filter ambient noise, giving preference to voice.”

Some Surface models have a digital pen to help collaborate in business meetings. “It allows breaking that barrier of I don’t see you, but I do allow you to collaborate with me as if we were together.”
