Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho is set to release a new film soon. With “Parasite” he won big two years ago – what is the South Korean planning now?

Los Angeles – Two years after his historic Oscar win with “Parasite”, South Korean director Bong Joon Ho has apparently found a new film project.

The filmmaker wants to shoot a science fiction film based on the book “Mickey7”, as the US industry journals “Hollywood Reporter” and “Deadline.com” reported on Wednesday. Accordingly, the studio Warner Bros. is on board and Robert Pattinson is under discussion as the main actor.

Author Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey7”, due out in February, is about a clone who takes on dangerous tasks on space expeditions. If he dies, a new clone will be generated. But on a mission to a hostile ice world, Mickey goes underground and rebels against the system.

Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B bought the filming rights back in 2020. Director Bong Joon Ho is said to be co-producing and writing the script for the untitled sci-fi film. Robert Pattinson is set to hit the big screen in March in Warner’s The Batman.

The social satire “Parasite” won four Oscars in 2020 for director, screenplay, best foreign language film and in the top category “Best Film”. The highest award had never before gone to a film shot in a language other than English. dpa
