Pecco Bagnaia, optimistic despite his shoulder pain: "I have a chance"

Pecco Bagnaia’s feat at the Portuguese GP allowed him to rise from last place on the grid to eighth position, despite suffering severe pain in his right shoulder from his fall during qualifying. Although fractures were ruled out, at the gates of the Spanish Grand Prix the Ducati rider is still experiencing pain.

“I trained normally because I don’t have any affected ligaments,” explained the Italian. “The problem is the movements, because there is a lot of fluid that is affected inside. But I was able to race in Portimão and I think it will be fine for me.”

After updating the press on his physical condition, Pecco Bagnaia explained that it was “difficult to do anything” to try to speed up his recovery: “The only thing that can help me is laser therapy. We can only do 20 minutes a day, but we don’t have a lot of time to recover well, still I think it was enough and I have the chance to have a good race”.

And these good feelings do not correspond only to his physical condition, but also to the Ducati , on which he feels increasingly comfortable after a delicate start to the season. Last year, the factory team had achieved a one-two finish at the Spanish GP, and this year, the Borgo Panigale factory hopes to do the same.

“Last year, Jack [Miller] and I were a bit lucky. We were very fast in the Jerez test in November and we felt very good with the bike. In the last three races I made a lot of progress in my feeling with the bike and in the Portimão race we took another step forward, so I think it will be a good weekend for me. I like the track, I like the behavior of the bike here, so it’s interesting to race on this circuit,” added Bagnaia.

“Looking at the data [from the Portuguese GP], it was the first time this year that I got my driving style back, I was quicker and better under braking, I went into [the corners] quicker than last year, so this new fairing and the work we have done begin to give us confidence and something positive” , added the runner-up. “It wasn’t easy, we worked a lot, but for the first time we found good things in Portimão,” concluded the Italian.
