Pecco Bagnaia: "Portimao will allow us to take stock"

After the first four tests of the season, the MotoGP World Championship arrives in Portimao to start the European tour. For many of the members of the grid, the Portuguese Grand Prix will mark a before and after in the course of the championship.

The official Ducati team arrives in the Algarve after a good weekend in Austin. In a race in which he finished fifth and found positive sensations in his Desmosedici, Pecco Bagnaia is aiming for a great result in Portimao.

The Italian driver currently occupies 12th position in the general classification with a difference of 38 points over the leader, Enea Bastianini. The Gresini rider, having scored points in all the races and confirming his potential in Austin, is the protagonist on a Ducati.

However, Bagnaia believes Portimao’s arrival could turn the tide of the season.

“After the break of the last few days, I am already energized and ready to face the first European round of the season. Both in Argentina and in the United States we went back to work like last year, finally managing to take steps forward and rediscover the sensations that I was used to,” Pecco said.

The factory Ducati rider has not had a dream start to the 2022 season, but he believes the start of the European tour can be the bridge to the points.

“Unfortunately, in Austin we couldn’t go beyond fifth position, because we lacked a bit of speed in the race,” recalled Bagnaia before the start of the Portuguese Grand Prix.

“This weekend we will race at Portimao, a circuit where last year we were able to go fast in both races.”

“Portimao is a very positive track, because it will allow us to take stock of the work done so far and understand where we still need to improve. I can’t wait to get going!” added the Italian Ducati rider excitedly.
