Petrucci: "People in MotoGP loved me, but they didn't respect me"

Danilo Petrucci spent 10 years in MotoGP, where he made his debut on a modest CRT for the Ioda team in 2012 and ended up becoming an official Ducati rider in 2019. The Italian won two races in his two seasons with Borgo Panigale, before joining the Tech3 KTM .

The man from Terni enjoyed the affection of the paddock and the fans, but he believes that he could have had a longer career in MotoGP if he had been less kind.

“During my 10 years in MotoGP, although I was already there since my father worked here – I think I came to this paddock for the first time 25 years ago, more or less – maybe I have been loved, but not respected,” Petrucci commented. “I think the reason is because you can’t be loved and respected at the same time.”

“During these years I have worked with a lot of people, I have talked to a lot of people and for me crossing the paddock is really difficult because I say ‘hello’, I stop to talk to a lot of people because I never shouted in the box, or I always took responsibility. When the results didn’t come, I always put myself in the spotlight to improve, not yelling or yelling at others trying to find something or some reason for the results.”

“I think I had a long career, maybe it could have been longer if I had started yelling at someone and not taking my responsibilities like other drivers do. But I never acted, I was always myself, I never tried to be someone different here or outside. .

Petrucci will make his Dakar debut next January with KTM and Tech3, and has been linked with a move to MotoAmerica in 2022. The French team, meanwhile, will feature an entirely new line-up made up of Moto2 world champion Remy Gardner. , and the runner-up, Raúl Fernández.
