The tire manufacturer Pirelli announced that it will invest 15 million dollars over the next two years in the construction of an advanced technology and digitization center at its factory in Silao, Guanajuato.

This investment is in addition to the $36 million plan to increase annual production capacity to 7.2 million tires at its Mexican factory, communicated in September 2021, during a visit by Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, governor of the state of Guanajuato, to Pirelli headquarters in Milan.

The company detailed in a statement that the new facilities will have an area of 6,680 square meters, which will be added to the current area of the plant of 200,000 square meters, and will operate under the Industry 4.0 concept. The heart of the investment will be the creation of the first Research and Development (R&D) Center of the Italian company in Mexico, which will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies for the production of tires designed for the next generations of electric and connected vehicles.

Pirelli said the new facility will help increase its technological and industrial competitiveness in North America and improve its ability to serve established premium brands in the local and US markets.

The company explained that its new headquarters, which will operate with local talent, constant training and knowledge transfer, will generate jobs for specialized professionals, in addition to creating connections with local universities.

Pirelli annually invests around 6% of its revenue from high-value products in R&D and holds more than 6,700 patents. The new center in Mexico will be added to the 13 already existing that the group has around the world.
