Police on duty against Halloween rioters

Due to the experience in recent years, the police in some areas in Germany expected rioting and riots before Halloween. A first balance sheet from the night.

Berlin – Imaginative costumes, nocturnal celebrations, but also some excesses took place on Halloween night in some parts of Germany.

The police stations reported disturbances, rioting and firecrackers in some places during the night on Monday, but larger operations were initially not known.

Several assignments in Berlin and Hamburg

In Berlin and Hamburg, the police took action against rioting celebrants. There were several missions in the capital in the areas of Gesundbrunnen, Neukölln and Märkisches Viertel, as a police spokesman said during the night. The rioters often threw firecrackers and pyrotechnics, and eggs were also aimed at the officers.

It was a busy night for the police, but the riots have so far been limited, the spokesman said. “Typically Halloween in Berlin, but without any highlights”, was his interim balance. In Hamburg, for example, the police had to intervene in the Harburg and Wilhelmsburg districts.

Firecrackers in southern Hesse

There were also riots in southern Hesse: the police control center in Darmstadt reported a good 20 corresponding complaints in the districts – including cases of disturbances and firecrackers. In Groß-Umstadt, eggs were reported to have been thrown against people and buildings, and a young person was slightly injured in the face by an egg. In several cases, windows or front doors were also damaged.

The situation centers in most of the other federal states reported a large number of night owls, but the Halloween celebrations were initially largely peaceful and did not require increased police intervention. dpa
