A strong gust of wind – probably a tornado – whirled people through the air in Kiel in the evening. There were some injured.

Kiel – According to the police, a tornado threw several people through the air in Kiel early on Wednesday evening and washed them into the water. Seven were injured in the event along the keel line, said a police spokesman.

According to the fire department, six people were taken to hospitals – three seriously injured and three slightly injured. Several people were on a jetty to secure a rowboat, reported a fire department spokesman. “They were completely mixed up and people fell into the water.” Some of them got hit by flying objects.

“On the basis of pictures, we assume that it was a tornado,” said Michael Bauditz from the German Weather Service (DWD) of the German Press Agency. He couldn’t say for sure yet.

In mid-August, a tornado caused severe damage in East Frisia. Torn house gables, overturned vehicles and countless fragments of roofs and fences bear witness to the force with which the tornado hit the community of Großheide. According to the fire brigade, nobody was injured at the time. dpa
