Prince William finds clear words about climate change

The members of the British royal family are committed to climate protection. Now Prince Willam has called on young people to take on the challenges.

London – The British Prince William (39) has shown himself hopefully in the face of advancing climate change that decisive action can lead to success.

Addressing young people, the second in line to the British throne said at an Earthshot Prize gala in London on Sunday: “Don’t stop learning, keep asking for change and don’t give up hope. We will master these challenges. ”At the same time, however, the Royal warned that the next ten years would be decisive. “The actions we choose or not choose will determine the fate of our planet,” said William.

The Earthshot Prize, which was awarded for the first time on Sunday in the presence of Williams and his wife Duchess Kate (39), is to be awarded annually to five projects that excel in the categories of nature conservation, protection of the oceans, air cleanliness, waste avoidance and climate protection. The prize money is one million British pounds each (around 1.2 million euros). The winners included the Central American country Costa Rica with its successful reforestation program. Pop star Ed Sheeran and the band Coldplay performed at the gala.

William isn’t the only royal to find increasingly clear words on climate change. Prince Charles (72), who has long been an advocate of environmental protection, recently said in a BBC interview that he totally understands that young climate activists are frustrated because nothing is happening. Even Queen Elizabeth II (95) was filmed venting her anger at the opening of the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff at politicians who find melodious words about the fight against climate change, but do not act. “It is very irritating when you talk, but then do nothing,” said the Queen in an interview with a parliamentarian and daughter-in-law Camilla. dpa
