The Monegasque Princess Charlène has been stuck in the Cape for three months because she is not allowed to fly because of an illness. In her home country she takes care of neglected children.

Johannesburg – Princess Charlène of Monaco, who is stuck in South Africa after an infection, says she is committed to helping children from poor backgrounds in her home country.

She told the South African magazine “You” that she sewed blankets for a few hours a day for a day care center in the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal – it is now winter there. In addition, the 43-year-old is planning a nationwide nutrition program for poor young people through her foundation. According to earlier information, she has been stuck on the Cape with an ear, nose and throat infection for three months and is therefore not allowed to fly. Charlène: “This is my longest stay in South Africa since I moved to Monaco in 2007.”

In the interview there was no indication of how the Princess experienced the wave of violence in the coastal province. It was infected by the imprisonment of ex-President Jacob Zuma and quickly became independent. In addition to KwaZulu-Natal, the area around the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg (Gauteng Province), where she once grew up with her parents in the suburb of Benoni, was affected.

Charlène, who is married to Prince Albert II (63), who is 20 years her senior, traveled to the country on the southern tip of Africa to campaign against rhinoceros poaching. As part of her trip, the Princess had visited a nature reserve in South Africa, where rangers dehorn rhinos to protect them from poachers.

The former career swimmer was born in 1978 in what is now Zimbabwe, and when she was twelve she moved to South Africa with her family. She met Albert in 2000 at a swimming competition. dpa
