The leader of the general classification of MotoGP and current world champion, Fabio Quartararo, faces the second half of the season with a cushion of 21 points over Aleix Espargaró.
However, this difference could be greater were it not for his mistake at the Dutch Grand Prix. In Assen , the young Frenchman crashed in the always difficult curve 5, taking with him the eldest of the Espargaró.
Although the Aprilia rider was able to save the crash and climb back to fourth position, Fabio received a penalty from the stewards. Thus, the Yamaha Factory Racing rider will have to serve a long-lap penalty at the British Grand Prix, which will be held this weekend at Silverstone.
Quartararo did not accept the sanction well , he made a complaint through his Instagram account in which he ironized about the good work of the stewards and warned that he would not try “more overtaking”.
After a month of rest, the waters return to their course, and the leader of the general says he is “happy” with the return of the activity. “I dedicated the summer break to rest, but I have also been training for many hours. I have been focused on returning to the races in the best possible shape,” he says.

But Fabio warns: “If I’m honest, that [the penalty] only makes me more motivated to do even better.”
He faces nine Grand Prix ahead in which he will have to assert his potential to retain the title of MotoGP world champion. Until now, the Yamaha rider has had to fight with the weaknesses of his bike, although he has accumulated one pole position, six podiums and three victories .
At the moment, it seems that his main rival in this fight is going to be Aleix Espargaró, emboldened by the great leap forward that Aprilia Racing Team has made compared to previous years.
Pecco Bagnaia, candidate to be the third in discord, seems to have been left off the hook, and currently occupies the fourth position in the general, 65 points behind the leader.
