Despite completing a good weekend for Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo was unable to beat Pecco Bagnaia’s pace in the final laps of the Andalusian track. In this way, the current world champion increases his leadership in the championship.
“It was a very tough race. Pecco [Bagnaia] had a great start and a great race,” the French rider introduced after getting off the bike. “I have tried everything, but Pecco Bagnaia was very fast.”
In a circuit where temperatures gradually rose, the tires of the MotoGP prototypes were damaged.
“I tried to overtake [Pecco] on the first lap because I knew it would be very difficult for my front tyre.”
“The tires were super hot, with a lot of pressure and, although I couldn’t brake harder, I was able to more or less keep the pace”
The French driver signed this Sunday his third podium in six races, after second place in Indonesia and victory in Portugal.
“The distance with the rest was very wide and we both went very fast”
“It has not been a fight, because we have not been able to get ahead, but it has been very intense and we have enjoyed it a lot”.
“When you’re behind I knew that if I couldn’t overtake it was going to be a very difficult race at the beginning and that’s what it was.”
“I’ve always been a long way from Pecco [Bagnaia] and when I’ve given a little bit of margin, I’ve been a little bit better.”
Fabio Quartararo assured that he is satisfied with second place, since “he was at the limit” at all times “without making any mistakes”.
“I think that from the beginning of the year we had a good feeling,” said the Frenchman regarding the panorama in the Yamaha garage. “But there are circuits where we lack a lot of power and, although you can’t see it here, what Pecco [Bagnaia] has done today is very strong.”
“We will have to keep working hard and try to find things that are important for the championship,” the Frenchman concluded.
