The Yamaha rider becomes the first Frenchman to be crowned in the heavy bike category and returns the brand on the tuning forks to the top six years after the last time, on that occasion (2015), with Jorge Lorenzo. Luca Marini finished ninth, while Valentino Rossi was able to say goodbye to the fans who idolize him from tenth place.
