The Yamaha rider arrives at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the top of the MotoGP standings with 52 points over the second, Pecco Bagnaia, so he will be crowned this Sunday if he wins or is ahead of the Italian, among other combinations.
At 22 years old, El Diablo will have a date with history at the Misano Circuit, although until the traffic lights go out on Sunday he will face the Grand Prix as if it were just another. Quartararo announced in the previous changes in his way of facing the last races, but he will not go out to keep.
A month ago, when it was raced in Misano, the #20 already arrived in a comfortable position, although he was not satisfied with second place and took risks until the last lap to try to snatch the victory from Bagnaia.
“I think you have to take it as a normal race, but of course we know that something special can happen on Sunday,” said Quartararo at the official press conference. “But at the moment, first I think Friday and Saturday, we have to plan it as the beginning of the year. Then on Sunday we will see how many risks we are going to take. Friday and Saturday will be a normal situation for the time being. And then we’ll see what happens.”
The boy from Nice says he is not thinking about the title at the moment and, if he sees himself with a chance of winning, he will not take out the calculator and go for it.
“Of course, I feel very good, but to be honest, my head is not really in that part of the championship. We’ll see. It’s how I like to race, but I’ve never been in that situation [winning a championship].”
“I think last year I learned a lot about how, not how to fight for a championship, because I didn’t have the opportunity, but leading the championship for many races last year was an important step in my experience. And I think this year is much easier, let’s say, to get it,” he stressed.
