Quartararo: "You can never rule Marquez out for victory"

With an interesting time (1:36.623), Fabio Quartararo managed to position himself second on the starting grid of the Spanish Grand Prix. The reigning world champion, after a battle for pole against Pecco Bagnaia, concluded the qualifying session for the sixth round of the season behind the Italian.

“I’ve been a bit far from Pecco [Bagnaia]”, introduced Fabio Quartararo at the press conference for the Spanish Grand Prix. “His time has been incredible in hot conditions, I find it very impressive”

However, the French rider assures that Yamaha “has done a good job today”, accompanied by a good pace with tires used in FP4.

This situation could invite Quartararo to think about a victory, a hypothetical result for which the Frenchman considers he has “good opportunities”, despite the fact that the track conditions will be different after the Moto2 and Moto3 races.

“At this circuit the issue of temperature will change the conditions, although every year I have been very fast in the races here.”

For this reason, the Frenchman considers that “he has great possibilities to achieve a good result” even if he does not have enough pace to mark a significant distance “from the beginning” with respect to the Ducati rider.

“The goal of any driver is to finish in front, especially in front of Pecco [Bagnaia] who was super fast today, but we still have 16 races to go, so the goal is to finish in front of everyone,” said the Frenchman, before to admit that “you can never rule out Marc [Márquez] for victory”

“It will be fantastic to see if we are able to get off to a good start and fight from the middle of the race to the end, as we have the pace to fight for the podium at the very least.”

“The purpose is to draw some good first laps and see how the temperature and the sensations change. We will have to adapt,” he said in relation to the accumulated water on the asphalt.

These patches of water could be critical when fighting for a good result.

“This affects us all in the same way, for example it has bothered me a bit, but we will have to make the line behind the patch of water”.

“Perhaps if someone tries to overtake there could be problems, because they are not patches, they are puddles.”

“I’m not saying it’s dangerous, but it’s not the most convenient.”

Finally, the French pilot added some details about his contract.

“Regarding this, my representative is talking to Yamaha, but during the race weekend I prefer to focus on my work and then when we return home, we will talk about how the weekend went and our future. On Monday I will have more information and I can say that I will announce it then”, concluded Fabio Quartararo.
