Queen celebrated with a scaled-down birthday parade

Queen Elizabeth’s birthday on April 21 is traditionally celebrated in summer. This year the parade was a little more modest.

London (AP) – The 95th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II has been celebrated in Great Britain with a smaller and corona-fair military parade.

Instead of the traditionally lavish “Trooping the Color” birthday parade, the official celebrations in honor of the Queen were celebrated on Saturday, as in the previous year, with a simpler ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Guards with their red uniforms and bearskin hats meticulously kept the Corona distance to each other while they celebrated the Queen with parade marches and the hymn “God Save the Queen”, which was played several times.

For the Queen, it was the first birthday parade of its kind since the death of her husband Prince Philip in April. At her side this time her cousin Prince Edward (85) took a seat. The Queen watched the whole thing in the sunshine with a concentrated and sometimes stern look, but smiled after fighter jets of the British Air Force had flown over the castle. Soldiers in Windsor who participated included those who supported communities and the NHS health service during the pandemic.

The traditional birthday parade with hundreds of soldiers and many spectators takes place in London in corona-free times – because of the pandemic, that was not possible this time either. The Queen’s 94th birthday in 2020 was celebrated more simply than usual at Windsor Castle. This time, however, the parade was a little bigger than last year: After 85 soldiers participated in the previous year, almost 275 of them and 70 horses were there this time.

The Queen’s birthday is on April 21st and this year she turned 95. The colorful military parade “Trooping the Color” in their honor traditionally takes place in June because of the normally better weather.
