(LONDON) – The funeral of Queen Elizabeth of England, who died this week after 70 years on the throne, will be held on Monday, September 19 at 1000 GMT, the head of State acts in England reported on Saturday.

The coffin will be flown from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh on Sunday, before being flown to London on Tuesday. Afterwards, he will remain in Westminster Hall from Wednesday until the morning of the funeral, which will be held in London's Westminster Abbey.

"We will do our duty in the coming days with the greatest of sadness, but also with the strongest determination to ensure a proper farewell to one of the defining figures of our time," said the Earl Marshal, Edward Fitzalan-Howard, Duke of Norfolk.

The queen's body currently rests in an oak coffin draped with the royal banner of Scotland and with a wreath placed on top in the ballroom of Balmoral Castle.

"It is a scene of quiet dignity," said a senior palace official.
