Windsor – In many homes, January 6th is the cut-off date for getting rid of the Christmas tree and removing the festive decorations. However, Queen Elizabeth II (95) adheres to a different tradition*.

Last Christmas was a little different than usual for the British Royals. Instead of traditionally gathering at Sandringham with the whole family, Queen Elizabeth stayed at Windsor Castle*. Due to the corona pandemic, the big gathering was canceled. Among other things, the regent was able to look forward to visits from her sons Prince Charles* (73) and Prince Edward* (57).
However, a moment of shock overshadowed the holidays: an armed intruder had gained access to the Windsor property*. Fortunately, the man was arrested before he could enter the castle premises. It is not until February 6th of each year that the Christmas season officially moves out at the Windsors. On that day in 1952, Elizabeth’s father, George VI, died. at the age of only 56 on Sandringham*. In his honor, the Christmas tree there will remain untouched until the day of his death.
