Queen had to intervene: ‘Bizarre argument’ between Andrew and Charles

During her time as a maid for the British royal family*, Janette McGown probably experienced a lot, but one incident she remembers to this day. In an interview with “The Sun” she describes a “bizarre argument” between Prince Andrew * (61) and Prince Charles * (73), which is said to have happened at Christmas 1999. As every year, the Royal Family traveled to Norfolk to spend the holidays at Sandringham House *, Queen Elizabeth II’s country estate (95). According to McGown, the two brothers clashed shortly after arrival. Apparently, Andrew did not stick to the room allocation and occupied Charles’s bathroom.

The then 39-year-old is said to have vehemently refused to change the bathroom. Queen Elizabeth II* is said to have finally resolved the conflict between her sons: “The Queen herself ultimately had to intervene to defuse the situation. She actually had to talk to Andrew and tell him to use the other bathroom and then he finally gave in. […] I think it was very stubborn. As far as his own rights go, he [Andrew] is very spoiled.”

Janette McGowan isn’t the only ex-employee to denounce the Duke of York’s behavior. Prince Andrew, who is currently making headlines thanks to his disqualification and a looming abuse trial*, is also being cast in a bad light by former royal police officer Paul Page. In a TV documentary, Page claims the father-of-two “roared and screamed” when the maids didn’t arrange his teddy bears in the correct order. *24royal.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
