Queen wants to celebrate 70 years on the throne

With the death of her husband Prince Philip, the Queen had to cope with a bitter loss. The monarch quickly resumed her royal duties – and is now preparing for a big event.

London (AP) – A parade, a concert and an extra holiday: a year before the great jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne, the plans have taken off.

Buckingham Palace published first plans for the celebrations in the coming year on Wednesday. The “Trooping The Color” parade, which is usually held in honor of the now 95-year-old monarch on the second weekend in June, is to take place on June 2, 2022 with around 1,400 soldiers and 400 musicians.

A big live concert with some of the “greatest entertainment stars in the world” is planned for the following Saturday (June 4th) at Buckingham Palace – who that will be has still been a secret.

Another pageant with street artists, actors and costumed people is to go through the streets around the palace on Sunday (June 5th), while citizens all over the country come to the “Big Jubilee Lunch” in their streets and gardens will celebrate together. For the first time, torches are to be lit not only in the United Kingdom but also in the capitals of the Commonwealth of Nations.

But not only fans of the monarchy will benefit from the upcoming platinum anniversary: There will be an extra holiday for the British in 2022 – with the spring holiday on June 2 and the one-time anniversary holiday on Friday, June 3, the country can look forward to a long one Look forward to spring weekend. For the royals, on the other hand, the anniversary is an annual task: They will travel to different places in the country to pay tribute to the monarch’s 70-year reign.

Creatives can get involved personally in the preparations: together with several London art museums, the royal family wants to call a competition to choose a suitable emblem for the celebrations.

After the death of her father, Elizabeth II ascended the British throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of just 25. It is the first time the British monarchy has seen Her Majesty’s platinum anniversary. June 2nd is the date of the coronation – but this took place because of the mourning for King George VI. only took place in 1953.

After Prince Philip’s death at the age of 99, the Queen has not had her most important companion by her side since April. However, the 95-year-old should always be accompanied by other family members on important appointments in the future.
