The figure of Rafael Nadal is fully recognized in Spanish tennis, but the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation has decided to take another step in honor of the thirteen-time Roland Garros champion. The Board of Directors of the RFET unanimously approved this Friday the creation of the National Tennis Day for June 3, coinciding with the day of Rafa’s birth.
As reported by the agency in a statement, ” the proposal will be outlined throughout these months , but the idea is to create a great movement of Spanish Tennis that brings together the main actors in a day of massive participation.”
The idea is that all the clubs, which number more than 1,500 throughout Spain, the Territorial Federations and fans from all over Spain celebrate tennis on Rafa Nadal’s birthday with different activities.
The idea came to popular acclaim and had its loudspeaker on the Eurosport broadcast. during the Roland Garros match between Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet , held on June 3, the birthday of the Manacor tennis player. Álex Corretja, a commentator for the network and a former professional tennis player, was the popular promoter of the proposal.
Miguel Díaz Román , President of the RFET, supported the initiative from the beginning. “I was listening to the Eurosport comments about Nadal’s game and I immediately understood that the idea was magnificent. Spanish tennis has a lot to celebrate. We have the most outstanding Spanish athlete of all time , we are current Davis Cup champions and we are in the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup. I think, as I say, we have a lot to celebrate, ”said Miguel Díaz. From now on, the RFET begins to work on this proposal for the first edition on June 3, 2022.
