Red Bull and Aston Martin finally agree on Fallows

Aston Martin announced last year that it had signed Dan Fallows, Red Bull ‘s chief aerodynamicist, as its new technical director.

However, the matter became controversial, as Red Bull insisted it would keep Fallows under his contract, which did not end until 2023.

At the time, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the team had little interest in letting Fallows go early.

“Our situation with Dan is very clear. He’s working on the 2021 car, and he’s working on next year’s car,” he said in July.

“He still has time left. He signed the contract at the end of last year, so he still has a significant window of time before he gets there in the middle of 2023. We’ll obviously keep him busy for the rest of his contract.”

With Red Bull unwilling to budge, the matter went to court, as both Fallows and Aston Martin lobbied to break the contract.

However, both teams announced Tuesday that they had reached an agreement that will allow Fallows to change teams this year. Terms of the deal were not made public.

That deal means that Fallows will be able to join Aston Martin on April 2 this year, to help the team progress with its new car.

In a brief statement, Martin Whitmarsh , group chief executive of Aston Martin Performance Technologies, welcomed the deal.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Red Bull that releases Dan before the end of his contract and we are looking forward to him joining the team,” he said.

Horner said: “We would like to thank Dan for his many years of excellent service and wish him well for the future.”

Fallows himself added: “I have enjoyed many happy years at Red Bull and I am proud of what we have achieved. I am looking forward to the next season and a new challenge.”

Aston Martin was keen to bring in Fallows as soon as possible as he tries to move up the grid after a disappointing 2021 season in which he finished seventh in the constructors’ championship.
