Breastfeeding is a human right for mothers and babies, recognized and protected by the United Nations (UN). However, when it comes to breastfeeding in public, there are still many mothers who have problems because some people see it as something bad or indecent.

For this reason, it is good news that finally in Mexico the Deputies have approved an opinion to recognize the right of women to breastfeed their children in public places , and thus avoid being prohibited or restricted from doing so.

With a total of 461 votes in favor, that is, with a unanimous vote, the addition of a fraction to article XXXIV of the Federal Law to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination was approved, in order to protect and defend breastfeeding in public places .

This reform was referred to the Chamber of Senators for constitutional purposes, and it is expected that it will not only help normalize breastfeeding in public, but also put an end to the discrimination suffered by many mothers and thus protect the right to health and food. of babies.

Regarding this, the president of the Human Rights Commission, Hugo Rafael Ruiz Luster, comments that breastfeeding should be seen as a normal activity, and not be a reason for moral controversy or criticism , for which some mothers receive negative comments, such as those we have discussed on other occasions, in which they are asked to cover up or go to a bathroom to breastfeed.

Fortunately, there are more and more places and establishments in which mothers are invited to breastfeed naturally and many countries have also chosen to create legal measures to protect this important right of mother and baby .
