Rehabilitate with the Wii

0
Rehabilítate con la Wii The Bioinspired Engineering and Health Informatics Group (IBIS) of the University of Alicante has developed a computer program that uses a Wii console remote to perform a series of rehabilitation exercises supervised by a physiotherapist.

The software allows the patient to know at all times if they are doing the exercises correctly . In addition, it stores information about the activity carried out so that the physiotherapist can check if the exercises are performed with the indicated frequency and with the necessary force. And all just with a computer and an adapted console controller.

Although at the moment the exercises developed are only valid for the upper extremities, the research is aimed at all people who need physical therapy. In addition, Alicante engineers want the same software to be used for training in the elderly or in patients with neurodegenerative diseases who need to do mechanical exercises, such as Parkinson’s patients.

The project will be presented at the XXX Annual International Conference of the IEEE Society for Engineering in Medicine and Biology that will take place at the end of August in Canada.
