What happened in the FP1 of the Belgian GP 2022 of F1 in Spa?

Lando Norris was the first to set a 1m49.712s on soft tyres, before Verstappen dropped to 1m47.456s.

His team-mate Sergio Pérez was second quickest, falling 1.6sec back on the hardies, before the Dutchman extended his lead with a 1m46.755s, a time over two seconds quicker than the Dutchman. other rivals.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) fell 1.6s short of that time on the medium tyres, before Alexander Albon moved into second on the softs midway through the session.

Sainz then set the fastest time with a 1m46.538s on soft tyres, 0.217s quicker than Verstappen . Leclerc moved into second, 0.069s behind his teammate, leaving Verstappen in third position.

The session was red-flagged with 22 minutes remaining when Kevin Magnussen’s Haas came to a stop with the ERS warning light on, causing a long break.

Practice resumed with nine minutes to go, but a downpour with five minutes remaining before the checkered flag prevented anyone from improving their times.

Esteban Ocon suffered a problem with his Alpine that forced him to return to the pits in second gear and ruled him out for the rest of the session.

What happened in FP2 of the 2022 F1 Belgian GP at Spa?

Verstappen scored first with a 1m47.699s on medium tyres, but was quickly overtaken by Sainz (1m47.390s).

Verstappen climbed back to the top of the timesheets by posting a 1m46.928s and then a 1m46.850s, with Sainz and Leclerc locking up the wheel at Les Combes corner.

The teams switched to the soft tires in the second half of the session and Sainz was fastest with a 1m46.649s before Verstappen dropped to 1m45.507s minutes later. Leclerc moved into second with a 1m46.369s, 0.862s off the pace of the Red Bull driver.

Norris was the best of the rest, ahead of Lance Stroll and Sainz. Hamilton was the fastest of the Mercedes, in sixth position.

After their struggles in FP1, Bottas, Ocon and Magnussen enjoyed a trouble-free session, but all three finished in the bottom five.

A light rain at the end of the session meant that the long runs were affected.
