Carlos Sainz was fastest in FP1, before his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc led in FP2, Friday’s final practice session at the 2022 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.

What happened in the FP1 of the Hungarian GP 2022 of F1?
Max Verstappen set the pace early on with a 1m21.235s on soft tyres, before Sainz dropped to 1m20.696s and then Leclerc to 1m20.225s.
The Dutchman fell within 0.018s of that time a few minutes later, while Sainz managed to beat him with a 1m20.184s, before the Monegasque dropped below the 1m20s barrier with a 1m19.863s. And, again, Verstappen came close, lapping at 0.009s.
Sainz lowered the bar to 1m19.671s, and Leclerc improved even further by posting a 1m19.426s.
In the closing laps, with 15 minutes remaining in Free Practice 1, Verstappen took the lead with a 1m18.880s, but was quickly overshadowed by Sainz (1m18.750s).
The Monegasque Ferrari driver finished third, 0.3s off the fastest time in early practice, ahead of Lando Norris and George Russell.

What happened in the FP2 of the Hungarian GP 2022 of F1?
The fight for the fastest time between Ferrari and Red Bull took center stage early in the session, with Sainz , Verstappen and Leclerc exchanging the top spot on medium tyres.
The Monegasque clocked a 1:18.911, almost half a second ahead of the Spaniard and 0.743 faster than the Dutchman.
All the drivers switched to the softer rubber halfway through FP2, and it was then that Norris set the fastest lap, an impressive 1m18.662s.
Quickly, Leclerc took the first position (1:18.445), while Sainz could only be third, 0.231s from first place. Verstappen was a little slower, finishing fourth, just ahead of the second McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo’s.
Leclerc reported a torque issue during his long run and entered the pits for the team to investigate.
On a largely uneventful day, Alex Albon spun his Williams at the first corner and was shown the only caution, but was able to return to the pits on his own.
