Review: MacBook Pro with M2 chip, a familiar design with more power

0

I still remember the day I first tried a MacBook Pro with its proprietary chip. The experience was so easy that, from there, I decided to buy it and change my old MacBook Air that I already had 6 years with me. Today, when I have the opportunity to test the new version with the M2 chip , I wonder if I have the same emotion.

This Mac has practically the same design as its predecessor: the Touch Bar, two ThunderBolt ports and an audio jack. Now, where the change really is is inside, thanks to the new generation of Apple Silicon chip, the M2, which allows it to have a faster CPU and GPU than the previous generation. But what does this mean? For example, exporting an 11-minute video in 4K took just 3 minutes and 45 seconds, while on the M1 chip it took 5 minutes and 33 seconds.

This power is also leveraged from a new cooling system, which is quite efficient. During the tests, at no time did I hear the fans or feel the computer overheating, even with several things running at once.

All of this results in not only a more agile computer with more processing power, but also a longer battery life. According to Apple estimates, the battery lasts for 20 hours.

At the time of writing this review, we tested the MacBook Pro in different ways to check and even though I tried to push it to its maximum, still after spending more than 10 hours working on it, the battery was at 45%.

In conclusion, it is a computer that performs throughout the working day and still allows the user to have a moment of entertainment afterwards, without having to reload it.

But, beware! Keep in mind that this Mac is an evolution of the first MacBook Pro with the 13-inch M1, but it is different from the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros that have the M1 Pro and Max chip. The latter are more powerful computers, with more ports and are designed for profiles that require higher capacities.

It is likely that for the next version of this model we can see changes in the design, following the more angular line that the new Apple lineup has, as well as the farewell of the Touch Bar and the possibility of having more ports as with the 14-port versions. and 16”, but for now, this MacBook Pro M2 falls somewhere in between.

What users does this computer work for?

For those users who still work with a Mac with an Intel chip, this is undoubtedly an interesting leap to take. Also if you need to have a computer with enough battery to work for hours and hours, this can be a good option.

With the most powerful MacBook Pros out there and the M2-chip MacBook Air about to go on sale, this 13-inch version stands as the most powerful version of this specific model so far and looks like it’s designed for professionals. that their key work is word processing, browsing the internet from time to time, manipulating some design or video, and spending more hours consuming entertainment.

MacBook Pro price in Mexico and availability

The cost of the 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $32,499.00 (MXN) and $29,749 (MXN) for education.
