The new season of Formula 1 has not started in the best possible way for McLaren. Despite having high hopes for the 2022 regulatory change, the team’s car was born with serious problems of overheating in the brakes, in addition to an alarming lack of downforce.
To date, two races have been held, the first of the course, in which the Woking team has only managed to add a total of 6 points, which were harvested thanks to the seventh position of Lando Norris in the last Arabian Grand Prix Saudi.
Although it is true that the numbers and the situation of McLaren is not very positive at the moment, the Australian driver of the British team believes that they have already taken a step forward from the difficult situation they went through at the Bahrain GP. According to Daniel Ricciardo, the team now has a chance to move up to be one of the main candidates to win races.
“If victory comes, it will happen a little later than we would have liked,” Ricciardo said after the Jeddah race. “Not looking too far into the future, if we managed to win a race at some point, I wouldn’t be too surprised, because I still have the utmost belief in the team and the people here. I trust 100% in the team members, like for example Andreas Seidl .
“The weekend in Bahrain was something of a crisis. I think we quickly managed to get out of that difficult situation, but we still have to chart the right path. Andreas [Seidl] is definitely one of the best to do that. So ask me in six months and I may not be surprised where we are.”
