Rins: "If the plane doesn't arrive I'm going to have to run with flip flops"

Suzuki is one of several teams that have been affected by a problem in the transfer of MotoGP material from Lombok, in Indonesia, where it was raced two weeks ago, to Termas de Río Hondo, where the Grand Prix is held this weekend. Argentina Award , which is why Friday’s session has been suspended.

“The only thing I can say is that it is a real shame to come here and that this problem has happened. We will make up the time on Saturday, but Friday will surely be very long, but on Saturday we will be on the track all day”, said Alex Rins in this regard.

The Spanish runner clarified that the team’s material had arrived, but not that of the two pilots of the Japanese brand.

“We are missing the boxes for the pilots, where we have helmets, overalls, gloves, boots and all that material, if the plane doesn’t arrive we’ll have to run in flip-flops,” Rins joked.

For the Suzuki rider, cutting a day of work in Termas does not see it as a big problem as it is a familiar scenario for him, despite the fact that he has not raced here since 2019.

“In my case it is not a problem and more or less I know the circuit, also the rest of the MotoGP riders have ridden here, even if it is in other categories, but it is a bit complicated for the rookies. But here everyone looks to their side and in that sense we don’t touch the bike much from Friday to Saturday, so it could even go well for us”.

However, he does acknowledge that waiting can be tedious and even stressful.

“You live with a bit of stress waiting, especially for the dead moments that we know how to spend time, it will take forever, but once we get on the bike on Saturday, the sensations are recovered. We’re going to walk around the circuit a few times to see how the tarmac and the potholes are, and to prepare well for Saturday’s practice”.

Rins has always been fast on this circuit, which is why he is among the candidates for the podium, which he has not been able to access for a long time.

“It could be, of course yes, we have always done well in Argentina, the key is to qualify well. In 2019 we started 16th on the grid and we finished fifth, the pace was great to get a podium, but we have to qualify well on Saturday to have options”, he valued.

“You make the most of each race, it is true that you go to some tracks with more enthusiasm due to previous results that you have been able to do, but the truth is that both this circuit, and the one in Austin, are the ones you are looking forward to arrive and get a good result”, admitted the Catalan.

Finally, they asked him about his future, since Rins’s contract ends at the end of the season and, for the moment, he has not started negotiations.

“I am very calm, in the end I give my best, at Suzuki they are happy and so am I, on that side I am very calm”, settled.
