Mugello.- Alex Rins’s world fell on him on May 2, 2022. That day he knew that what had been his home, his life, his passion and his profession, were going to undergo a sudden transformation with incalculable consequences. For the boy from Barcelona , Suzuki was everything, he felt it as something of his own, his life, his world and all of a sudden, he was left like someone evicted from his house. On the street, mentally and physically.
At the moment, and 24 days have passed since then, Rins continues to talk that “it’s all very recent” and continues to think that the rest of the drivers and teams “have not yet assimilated the new situation”, with two leading drivers, himself and Joan Mir, on the market and, who knows, two bikes less next year on the grid.
Motorsport.com was able to speak to Rins in the run-up to the Italian Grand Prix on Thursday, and ask him how he is doing in the future.
“The problem is that now there are two more riders on the market and it’s not easy. Many things are said, even before the Suzuki thing was known, it was already said that Joan (Mir) had it half done with Honda, if the situation It would have been that, the signing would have already been announced, but it is not like that, it is not all that easy. You have to give the teams a little time, it is not easy to take two riders out of nowhere, and I say out of nowhere because It was neither in the plans of the teams nor in ours”.
At Le Mans, Rins already explained to Motorsport.com that his representative had met with some teams.
“In France my manager met with several teams and to see if in Montmeló (next week) or in the next race (Germany, June 19) we can have news, but at the moment things are pretty much the same, there is nothing new” , assumes that of Suzuki.
For a rider who since his arrival in MotoGP has always been in an official factory team, like Suzuki, maintaining that status is the goal, but it will not be easy as there are very few places. The option of running in a satellite formation seems the most likely right now.
“Personally, I would like to be in an official team, I’m not going to lie to you. And if it’s not in an official team, at least have a contract with a factory directly, without underestimating the satellite teams, because apparently, a satellite three years ago was not the same as today. So we will see, honestly, there is only one official place (KTM) free, so if we have to go to a satellite team, then it will have to go. Better that than being at home”.
In a normal situation, Alex Rins would be a piece of candy in the driver market, but in the current situation, nobody can be calm about his future.
“Now I’m calm, when we start negotiating more intensely it will be a good challenge to stay calm, I feel mentally strong and I think we can handle this and more, we are going to focus on our sports career and on our year, which is this, see how it goes”, settled the still Suzuki rider.
