Rins: “Starting 20th I am not in a position to put pressure on Suzuki”

Alcañiz.- The Barcelona rider is having a very difficult weekend at Motorland from the first day and at no time has he been close to the top positions. In a circuit where he won last year, Rins was not able to get a pass to Q2 neither in the accumulated of the three free practices, nor in Q1.

Unlike on other occasions, #42 did not come close to doing so. In fact, he finished 20th and third from last, just ahead of Valentino Rossi (21st) and Jake Dixon (22nd), and even behind Maverick Viñales (19th) on his Aprilia debut.

Rins’ performance also contrasts with that of his teammate Joan Mir, who was seventh, despite the headaches that the rear holeshot is giving him this weekend.

“It was a very complicated timed session”, Rins admitted. “All the laps I started badly in turn 1, and that conditions you a lot. In turn 1, with the bike straight I am able to stop it, but as I enter the curve my rear end lifts a lot. I should be a little more conservative when braking. Joan is half a second ahead of me until turn 5. From there we are more or less on the same level.”

The Suzuki rider is preparing for a difficult race, in which despite saying he doesn’t have such a bad rhythm, starting late already conditions him from the start.

“At a pace level I don’t think we’re bad. If we choose the soft rubber we can destroy it to try to overtake the riders,” he explains.

The season of the third classified in the last World Championship is proving disappointing and performances like this Saturday’s do not help to demand more from Suzuki .

“The position is very bad. It’s not where we have to be. Starting 20th I’m not in a position to put pressure on Suzuki,” he settled.
