2016 champion Nico Rosberg believes McLaren driver Lando Norris to be the best of the current talents on the F1 grid. It’s not an insignificant claim by the former world champion, given that the Englishman regularly comes up against Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and George Russell, who all outnumber the British driver in age.
Each of the names in this quartet hopes to establish their own dominance in the Grand Circus, similar to what Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have achieved repeatedly over the last decade, when they won world championships with Red Bull and Mercedes, respectively.
“Norris is one of the best of the next generation, potentially the best. Instead of lambasting Daniel [Ricciardo] right now, we should be praising Lando [Norris], who is driving like a future world champion,” Rosberg said. to Sky Sports F1.
Lando Norris is in his second season alongside Ricciardo, and considers himself lucky to be able to compete against the likes of Lewis Hamilton.
“You always hear stories when you have Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher, and in our time Lewis [Hamilton] represents that,” the 22-year-old told The Guardian.
Norris and Hamilton maintain a good relationship, and the McLaren driver does not hesitate to praise the seven-time world champion. “He’s a good guy, always willing to help. He’s been through it all, so he knows what teams are trying to get out of you and what you should get out of teams.”
“It’s small things, but he’s always willing to help,” said Norris, who is currently McLaren ‘s driver bearing the brunt of keeping the fight for the top five in the constructors’ championship.
