In view of the escalation in Ukraine, the carnivalists in Cologne are canceling the Rose Monday festival. Instead, a peace demonstration is planned.

Cologne – Because of the war in Ukraine, the Cologne Carnival festival committee has canceled the Shrove Monday festival planned for Monday (February 28th, 2022) with a parade in the Rheinenergie Stadium. Instead, a peace demonstration with persiflage wagons will be organized in squares in downtown Cologne, said a spokesman for the festival committee of the German Press Agency on Thursday.

The Shrove Monday festival was intended as a corona-friendly* replacement for the Shrove Monday procession. The Cologne Shrove Monday procession was supposed to go through the football stadium. (dpa) *hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.

Due to the Ukraine crisis, many TV and radio stations are changing their programs at short notice. This also applies to carnival reporting. Local media react differently.
