Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is in its 65th edition, one of the longest-running events in the world, and although preparations for the event are already underway, the entire city has wanted to adorn itself For the occasion, a series of Rotterdam containers have been turned into works of art thanks to selected international artists.The Rotterdam Hiphop In Je Smoel arts association has been commissioned to invite street artists from Spain, Germany, United Kingdom , Italy, France and the Netherlands in order to carry out the creation of a common work of art. The facility created for the event is made up of six large maritime containers and is being built in the parking lot next to the Rotterdam Ahoy stadium where Eurovision will take place.Inspired by the ‘Open Up’ theme and the typical flat landscape of the Netherlands, the design is curated by set designer Florian Wieder, who has already designed the sets for the Düsseldorf Song Festival (2011), Baku ( 2012), Vienna (2015), Kiev (2017), Lisbon (2018) and Tel Aviv. (2019). Each container has been decorated by a different artist, according to their experience and creativity. The common denominator, regarding the event, will be the theme “Open up Rotterdam”. Dave Vanderheijen of Hiphop In Je Smoel commented: “Artists are selected on the basis of originality and quality. We would like to show a variety of movements within street art, I look forward to a beautiful collection of works. «At the moment there is still no maximum certainty that the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will take place normally due to the Covid pandemic -19, but there is a good possibility that 3,500 spectators can enter the stadium to enjoy the festival that one more year we will be able to see from Spain through TVE.
