Russell happy in Mercedes colors at Brackley

As Lewis Hamilton remains silent on social media since losing the 2021 Formula 1 championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix , his new teammate George Russell is drawing the attention of the Mercedes team on social media.

The Briton, who this year will run with the Silver Arrows to replace Valtteri Bottas, now an Alfa Romeo driver, is already wearing his “new uniform”, the casual clothes he will wear on the circuits representing the Mercedes team, in the photos taken during a visit to the team’s headquarters in Brackley .

Russell joins the eight-time world champion team from Williams, where Mercedes placed him for three seasons as part of their development programme.

However, the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix will not be Russell’s first race with Mercedes as he came on for Lewis Hamilton at the 2020 Sakhir GP when the seven-time world champion tested positive for COVID19.

In a recent interview with Autosport (sister website of Motorsport.com) , Russell said he is excited to start a new season in which he will help with the development of a car like this year’s, where new technical rules will be introduced.

“I am very excited to see the new cars and what they will offer to everyone.”

“That’s really exciting, but I’m also looking forward to being a part of developing a car that will progress dramatically over the course of a season, working with the designers, working in the simulator, putting a lot of work into progress.”

“I’m sure it won’t necessarily be whoever is quickest in the first race to win, and I’m sure there will be some interesting layouts and maybe some that aren’t usually out front will come out on top in the first few tests or races.”

“It’s about whoever builds everything the fastest, who builds the best, and building that foundation for years to come. It’s something that I’m really excited about from an engineering standpoint.”
