Friday’s day of the 2022 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix has not gone badly for Carlos Sainz and the Ferrari team, who debut a special decoration on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the brand’s birth. Those from Maranello took the top positions in the table thanks to the times of their starting duo, with Charles Leclerc ahead of the man from Madrid in the session that opened the action in Monza, although the Spaniard rose to the top in the afternoon.

The Italians hope to have an uncomplicated race at home after seeing that they can be competitive and that their main rivals will have to comply with grid penalties for changing components in the power unit, so the Monegasque is running as the main candidate to triumph.

However, one of the cars in red will have to start from the back of the pack, as Sainz introduces fresh elements to the engine. Despite this, the man from Madrid was satisfied with the work done on the first day of activity on the track, and was able to be second, just 77 thousandths behind his teammate in FP1 , and lead in FP2 with almost two tenths of a margin.

“In general it has been a positive day. We still have to review all the data, but I have felt comfortable in the car and it seems that the package that we have brought is going well this weekend,” acknowledged the Spanish Ferrari driver.

He will have to come back on Sunday, so both top speed and lap pace will be crucial if he wants to achieve his goal of moving up the positions and give the tifosi a good performance in their second grand prix in red at Monza: “We still have work to do improve the pace of the long runs, so tonight we will analyze every detail to try to improve tomorrow and especially for the race”.
