Santi Hernández does not set a date for Márquez's return: "It is not important"

Marc Márquez continues with his recovery process from the fourth surgery he underwent on his right arm, injured in July 2020 in Jerez. This same week they are scheduled to take an X-ray of the pilot to see the evolution in the sixth week after the intervention, carried out on June 2 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, so that Dr. Joaquín Sánchez-Sotelo can verify that the Bone solidification follows the expected course.

It will be with this information in hand when the new steps to follow in the rehabilitation of the pilot are decided, who at the moment does not have an expected date of reappearance, although from Honda they have pointed out that he is expected before the end of the season.

Santi Hernández , Márquez’s track engineer since his time in Moto2 and throughout his sporting life in the premier class with the Repsol team in MotoGP, considers that the date of Marc’s return “is not important”.

The podcast ‘ En la Honda ‘, produced by Honda Spain, interviewed the person in charge of Márquez’s garage at HRC, and he suggested what dates were considered possible for the reappearance of the eight-time world champion.

“I don’t know, nor is it up to me to talk about when he’s going to come back, I really don’t know when he’s going to reappear. The only thing I hope is that he comes back, and when he does, that he’s recovered,” Hernández was cautious.

“The most important thing is that he can go back to riding as he has been doing until now (before the injury), that he can go back to doing what he likes the most, which is riding a motorcycle, that he can go back to enjoying himself, because with the injury he’s had he didn’t enjoy. For me, that’s the most important thing”.

“When he comes back here we will be waiting for him, I am not the one who has to mark the time for him to reappear”.

In addition to returning and recovering, the second important aspect is that when Marc reappears he can recover the performance that led him to win the championship six times in seven years, between 2013 and 2019.

“The results will be seen, they don’t worry me either, what worries me the most is that he recovers and enjoys riding the bike again, which is what he likes to do the most, from then on the results will be the consequence of many things” , considers.

While at Honda they hope that Márquez arrives in time to be able to intervene in the development of the 2023 bike, Hernández prioritizes other aspects.

“The important thing is that first he recovers and returns to riding, that the sensations are good and from then on, build again,” he says.

“I don’t think about it, or at least it’s my way of seeing things, now I don’t think about whether when I come back we’re going to get this or that, or if we’re going to win this way or that way. I don’t think about those issues , you have to be realistic and I think there are things that are more important. The main thing is that as a person and as a driver he recovers from his injury, and from then on he enjoys himself. Then we’ll see”, settles the Catalan coach.
