The governments of Mexico and the United States are already working on a security plan, details of which will be announced in October, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Friday.

“We have a common action plan, we didn’t have that. When we sat down to talk about security we made a plan; there are goals, actions and who does what”, said Ebrard without offering further details of said plan during his participation in the North Capital Forum .

The foreign minister spoke of the challenges that Mexico faces, as a country: “Increase the value of its economy, grow more than 2% and reduce the rate of inequality; close the gaps as much as we can -universal health system, improve our public education system- and, of course, the issue of security”, he detailed.

Regarding the three partners of the T-MEC, Ebrard pointed out that North America has a “very great opportunity” to grow faster, integrate its value chains; as well as to protect its food, energy and technological security.

“Everything, by logic, by history, by future, leads us to speed up this integration,” he insisted.

The chancellor maintained that it is time for each actor to do what they have to do. “As for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will continue to do everything in our power so that we can accelerate the integration of our countries, our economies and our societies.”

97% of Mexicans who live outside of Mexico are in the United States, the percentage reaches 98.2% if you add those who live in Canada, the foreign minister concluded.
