Several specialists explain when the Delta variant could be predominant in Spain

Although vaccination is going well in Spain and it is about to reach 15 million vaccinated, there is something that worries the experts. They are the new variants of the Covid. For this reason specialists explain when the Delta variant could be predominant in Spain.

In an interview with the newspaper El País and, although the forecasts may vary because nothing is certain with the Covid, various experts give a date to the expansion of this variant, which in Catalonia, for example, continues to spread.

The month of July

The middle of the month of July is the possible date that they give based on certain statistical data that they have been applying throughout the pandemic. For example, Álex Arenas, a data physicist at the Rovira i Virgili University, predicts that this can happen in less than a month .

They are clear that in Catalonia it is expanding and this will reach the rest of Spain, so the Delta variant could be predominant in the middle of July.

More transmission

As scientists have already commented these days, the Delta variant (ancient India) is much more transmissible and therefore causes more hospitalizations. As there are more and more vaccinated , there is fear for expansion but there is hope. And the goal is to vaccinate as many more people as possible with the two doses.

In this case, it should be noted that, according to studies carried out in the United Kingdom, where this new variant is already dominant, its response to a single dose of vaccine is 30% protection , but the protection is much greater when it is receives the second dose.

It is for this reason that specialists such as Federico Martinon, pediatrician and advisor on vaccines of the World Health Organization (WHO), reflects in El País that what is important is the complete guideline.

So it is important that people who have a single dose do not trust themselves because with the Delta variant they are very little protected.

Although the vaccination rate is going well in Spain, it should be noted that there are still many people who need the full schedule. Now, and it depends on the community, people from 30 to 39 years are already being called to vaccinate, but there are many from 50 to 50 and 40 to 49 years who are doing it now and who are with a single dose.
