Sexual abuse: Prince Andrew hearing postponed

0

The hearing on the abuse allegations against the British Prince Andrew has been postponed. But there should already be a new date.

London – The hearing against the British Prince Andrew has been postponed. The court announced this on Wednesday (October 13, 2021) in New York. The hearing should deal with allegations of abuse against the 61-year-old son of Queen Elisabeth II. The lawyers of the two conflicting parties are said to have agreed on a new date by November 3rd.

The meeting is to take place for planning purposes. The US-American Virginia Giuffre accuses Queen Elisabeth II’s son of having sexually abused her several times over 20 years ago as a 17-year-old. The civil lawsuit is related to the abuse scandal involving the now deceased US multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

Royal family turn against Prince Andrew

Virginia Giuffre claims to have been made a sex slave by Jeffrey Epstein and his ex-partner Ghislaine Maxwell as a teenager along with dozens of other minors. Prince Andrew has withdrawn from his royal duties due to his previous friendship with Epstein. However, he strictly rejects the allegations of sexual abuse.

The London police had recently announced that they would not start any further investigations against Prince Andrew in the abuse scandal. Nevertheless, numerous members of the royal family stood against the 61-year-old. According to reports in the Sunday Times, for example, Prince William should perceive his uncle as a danger to the English monarchy. A source told the Sunday paper that William was “not a fan of Uncle Andrew.”

Sexual abuse allegations: Prince Andrew under fire

Even before Virginia Giuffre’s violent allegations, Prince Andrew was criticized for his friendship with American millionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Investment banker and convicted sex offender Epstein committed suicide in prison in 2019. Together with his ex-partner, he is said to have brought dozens of girls and young women into his addiction and sexually abused and fed other men.

In her civil lawsuit against the Duke of York, Virginia Giuffre reportedly seeks payment of damages from Prince Andrew. In what amount is not known. (msb with dpa)
