During a police operation in Frankfurt, shots are fired. A man is said to have attacked a patrol. The police later found him lifeless in an apartment.

Frankfurt / Main – After shooting in the west of Frankfurt, the police found a lifeless man in an apartment. The 41-year-old, armed with a pistol and knife, had previously attacked emergency services, the investigators said on Tuesday.

As a result, the police officers used firearms. It was initially unclear whether the man was dead. The State Criminal Police Office is now taking over the investigation. Another danger to the population can be ruled out.

According to investigators, the Frankfurt police were alerted around 11.15 a.m. because a dangerous situation was suspected in a residential building in the Griesheim district. When the police patrol arrived on site, they were attacked by a man. The shot was fired. At first it was unclear who shot how often.

The attacker was then found lifeless in the apartment building during a search by the special task force (SEK). There was no information about his condition. A police officer who was part of the police patrol that was first alerted was injured in the course of the operation.

The immediate crime scene was initially closed. The Frankfurt police announced on Twitter that the blockages in the area of operation would now be gradually lifted. According to the police and federal police, the Frankfurt-Griesheim train station was completely closed. dpa
