Why a private ritual should not be ideologized

Of course we have to save water. We use far too much of the stuff that keeps us alive anyway. On average, we consumed 127 liters of drinking water per person per day in Germany in 2021, that is 46,000 liters per year! And that's not counting the water used to make our food and clothes.

Of the 127 liters, we use 120 liters to flush something down the drain. We use 40 liters for showering alone, and we've already showered sparingly. There are a number of websites on the Internet that calculate how the shower head and duration of the shower affect water consumption. With a ten-minute rain shower, 120 liters of water easily gurgle down the drain!

Of course, it has its weaknesses to point out that everyone should please clean up in their own way. But with calculation examples like this, more people could definitely be made to think about their showering habits than if a simple cleaning ritual were ideologically charged at the federal level.
