Essen – After the murder of her six-year-old daughter, a woman from Bottrop was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Friday. The judges at the Essen district court assume that the accused first tried to drown the little girl in the bathtub on the night of January 28, 2022 and then stabbed her several times in the neck.
The 46-year-old suffering from depression had confessed to the crime in the process, but referred to gaps in memory. According to the verdict, the background was a divorce and custody dispute.
Judge Jörg Schmitt spoke of a “cruel act” when the verdict was announced. There is even evidence that the accused wanted to take revenge on her husband, who lived separately from her. However, that cannot be determined with certainty. The mental illness of the accused is the main focus. According to the judgment at the time of the crime, she was considered to be less responsible.
