For a few days, the lighthouse in Bremerhaven – one of the city’s landmarks – has been in a threatening position. Safety measures are now being taken.

Bremerhaven – The lighthouse in Bremerhaven, which has gotten into a dangerous imbalance, has been provisionally secured. He could possibly fall further, said the spokesman for the port company bremenports, Holger Bruns. Should this happen, the tower will no longer fall into the water, but will land on a floating pontoon, which has now been installed in front of it and on which hay has been piled up in case the tower falls. “The tower then no longer falls into the fairway,” said the spokesman.

The lighthouse stands on the north pier at the entrance to the fishing port in Bremerhaven. The pier had lowered during the night of Thursday. Since then, the approximately 20 meter high tower has been in a dangerously crooked position.

It is still unclear whether the listed dome can be dismantled without the tower tipping over, the spokesman said. That will probably only become clear in the next week. Experts want to carry out further examinations of the lighthouse from a crane. dpa
