Snacks and sweets for dogs, are they really necessary?

0

The dogs of centuries past lived happily without the need for that succulent snack every day. Today there are in the canine food market the largest variety of treats for dogs, differentiating sizes, shapes, colors, textures and flavors. For example, between some small spheres with a pizza flavor or some pieces that taste like ham … You no longer know what to choose! As in other aspects of the education and well-being of our dogs, we are going from corny and bullies.

Animals eat (or did until a few years ago) to meet their nutritional needs as their body requires and there is no more. However, man has wanted to invent some extras so that our pets also enjoy delicious snacks from time to time, just like we do. Before going on to comment on the advantages of these products, we must warn that they are a necessity invented by man, of which he will also take advantage of. In our endeavor to anthropomorphize the needs of dogs, we have devised some snacks to entertain them and as counterparts to our chocolate ice cream or our gummies. A caress or a game time will be the same or better received by the animal.

Once this point is clarified, we can say that the snacks have sought their own positive function: to help us teach orders to the animals. Knowing that afterwards they will have a rich reward helps the dog to listen to us when we tell him to sit down or come to us. In addition, some serve to improve the dental health of our furry by helping to remove tartar and leave fresh breath.

If you are going to buy snacks for your furry dog, check with your veterinarian about the quality of the product that interests you and which ones he recommends. Let’s not be guided by the pineapple flavor that some very cute little balls have that we are buying in a shop of dubious specialization … In the correct establishments you will find endless flavors and sizes of these good brand products with which you can stay calm since your dog will be ingesting a studied product. Also, keep in mind that a candy should never be a product of our own diet, but we will choose one from a great brand that will have the same nutritional composition as daily foods.

We must administer sweets as a supplement to the daily diet

Always remember that these products are supplementation to their diet , an extra that will not be a substitute for their feed. Therefore, you should not stop giving him part of his daily ration because you will be taking away the percentage of nutrients he needs during that day. You also do not have to saturate sweets because it will excessively decompensate the nutrient levels. Excesses are bad at one extreme as well as the other.

If we stop giving him food, we will not have the amounts of energy, phosphorus, minerals, vitamins, etc., that he needs covered and if we go overboard with sweets, we will be increasing some of those compounds (especially energy) that, in the long run, you will notice the health of the animal. How? If we expose our best friend to an abundance of supplements or scraps of our own food, we will be sentencing him to diseases such as obesity, gastrointestinal problems, oral diseases and even tooth loss.
