So you can get your Netflix bills

Netflix decided to establish itself as a company with residence in Mexico for a few months and before this movement, users may already require invoices, something that in the middle of last year had generated a lot of controversy, because although the company began to collect the Value Added Tax (VAT) of 16%, at that time it did not comply with the fiscal protocol.

Now, the process to print an invoice for Netflix charges has been made easier for subscribers and even the company itself has given the user details to request this document, which can be processed from their account.

The first step in this procedure is to log in. The next is to enter the “Membership and billing” section, where the option “Billing details” will appear. There, a list with the paid subscription months will be displayed, so that from this menu, invoices for specific periods can be generated.

By clicking on the invoice for a month, the link will take you to a printable invoice where the “Receipt Number” will be needed. Then, in the header of the invoice, the user must select the option “Download the tax invoice”. By doing so, you will be redirected to the Ekomercio website, where you must select the “Subscription” option.

Subsequently, the user will have to enter their “Receipt number in Transaction ID to perform the search. Once the document is obtained, it will be necessary to enter information such as the CFDI, RFC or email, among others, to receive the electronic invoice via email.

According to Netflix, subscribers have 12 months from the billing date to recover a CFDI related to the one-month charge, while those who canceled their service will be able to obtain the document up to 10 months after their service has ended.

On the other hand, Netflix details that it is not possible to obtain invoices prior to June 1, 2020, since this date is when it began to apply the new VAT in Mexico and, therefore, “it does not have the obligation to issue a tax invoice prior to that date ”.

It is worth mentioning that in other services such as Disney Plus it is also possible to invoice from the account configuration menu, since when contracting the service these data are requested, while in the case of Prime Video, the invoicing can be done through the Prime membership in the user’s account.

Netflix decided to establish itself as a company with residence in Mexico because the country represents a fertile territory for investment and production of audiovisual content. At the beginning of 2021, for example, the streaming platform announced an investment of 300 million dollars in Mexico, in order to produce more than 50 original productions within the country.

“As of January 1, 2021, Netflix Mexico began to operate as a local distributor of access to the Netflix service for our Mexican subscribers. This will allow Netflix Mexico to contract directly with Mexican subscribers and recognize the income of subscribers locally, paying all applicable taxes, “commented a company spokesperson.

Regarding when other technology companies implement a similar model, Diamantina Perales, president of the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants, indicated that they will do so until the moment they decide to invest in a more profound way in order to produce in the country, instead of just submit content or products that were created on other sites.
