Born in Swabia, Gerd Nefzer was awarded one of the coveted trophies in 2018 for “Blade Runner 2049”. This year the special effects artist is in the Oscar race again.

Los Angeles – The German special effects artist Gerd Nefzer has come a step closer to his second possible Oscar win.

The Visual Effects Society (VES) honored Nezfer along with four Hollywood colleagues for their joint work on the science fiction epic “Dune” for the best visual effects. At the awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, “Dune” prevailed in the top category against films such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and the Bond film “No Time to Die”.

Nefzer and his colleagues Paul Lambert, Tristan Myles and Brian Connor are also in the Oscar race at the end of March. The winners of the renowned VES organization often later win the Oscar in the “Visual Effects” category. The Visual Effects Society has over 4000 members worldwide working in the field of special effects.

“Dune”, directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve, has been nominated for a total of ten Oscars. The star composer Hans Zimmer also has a chance of winning an Oscar with his film music for the science fiction drama. Born in Swabia, Nefzer, based in Schwäbisch Hall, won one of the coveted trophies in 2018 for “Blade Runner 2049”. The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place in Hollywood on March 27th. dpa
