Spotify takes action against misinformation about Corona

Because stars like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell want to see their music removed from Spotify, the streaming service is now speaking up. An initiative against misinformation is to be implemented.

Stockholm – The streaming service Spotify wants to add a note to all posts about Covid-19 in the future, which should lead users to scientifically sound information from reliable sources.

This new initiative against false information will be implemented worldwide in the coming days, said the company’s founder and boss, Daniel Ek, in a blog post on Sunday. Spotify is thus responding to its users, who have raised questions about the boundary between acceptable and unacceptable content on the platform in the past few days, it said.

Artists want to pull off music

Several artists, including Neil Young (76/”Heart of Gold”) and Joni Mitchell (78/”Big Yellow Taxi”), had previously announced that they would withdraw their music from Spotify. In doing so, they are protesting against a corona podcast that has been criticized by numerous scientists as playing it down.

Spotify wants to make all music and audio content accessible to its users, it said in a statement from the Swedish streaming giant. The company has a comprehensive content policy and has removed more than 20,000 Corona-related podcast episodes since the pandemic began. dpa
