Hamburg – The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has warned of a possible storm surge on the German North Sea coast.
On Thursday, the evening or night high water on the East Frisian coast will be up to one meter, on the North Frisian coast and in the Weser and Elbe area up to 1.5 meters and in the Hamburg Elbe area about 1.5 meters higher than the average high water . The high in Hamburg was expected for just after 11 p.m. The maritime weather service expected wind forces of up to 8 on the coast, with gusts of up to 10.
A storm surge of the predicted magnitude could flood some low-lying areas of the bank in Hamburg, such as the nationally known fish market or parking lots near the Elbe in the west of the city. As a precaution, the fire brigade therefore asked car owners on the short message service Twitter to remove their vehicles from endangered areas beforehand.
