The storming of the Capitol occupies the United States to this day. A feature film should address the events in Washington DC in a special way.

Los Angeles – The events of January 6th in the USA are to be brought to the big screen. A script recreating Trump supporters’ storming of the Capitol in Washington DC is currently being promoted with celebrity support, news site Deadline reports. Director Billy Ray wants to focus on a special perspective in the film.

It was recently the first anniversary of the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, which killed ten people. Meanwhile, the processing of the event, which is seen as an attack on American democracy, continues. As the specially appointed commission tries to determine who knew how much at what time, Hollywood plans a different form of reconstruction. A feature film is to show the incident up close.

Film planned about storming the Capitol: What role should Trump play?

Billy Ray is more than just a director here. The experienced screenwriter traveled to the US capital shortly after the Capitol was stormed to speak to those affected, Deadline reports. There he is said to have spoken to US congressmen who were trapped in the Capitol during the storm. In addition, Ray was able to recruit Capitol Police Officer Michael Fanone to advise on the project. Fanone was brutally attacked and injured by Trump supporters on January 6.

The role of former US President Donald Trump himself, on the other hand, will probably not play a major role in the film. While Trump’s involvement in the storming of the Capitol is still in question, director Ray wants to focus on the events on the ground: “It’s about demonstrators who became rioters and police officers who became defenders of democracy,” said the American. “Someone else can tell the story of the chaos at the White House that day. I wanted to stay in the trenches.”

Storm on the Capitol: Hollywood screenplay is up for sale

Billy Ray has experience with screenplays based on real events. Both “Captain Phillips” and “Richard Jewell” were written by him. Ray has also recently attracted attention in the field of politics with the mini-series “The Comey Rule: Bigger Than the Office”.

In addition to him, Adam McKay is also involved as a producer on the production. His films include the real-life satire Vice, about former US Vice President Dick Cheney, and The Big Short, in addition to the recently released Netflix Don’t Look Up. The storming of the capitol screenplay, titled “J6,” is now being offered to studios and streaming services. (vbu/dpa)
